Family Adventure - Newark

Central Ohio has much to offer for family adventures. There is so much packed within a 60-90 minute drive and we were able to take full advantage on Friday. Hubs had the day off so we packed up Baby K, braved state route 161 on a Friday afternoon and headed 40 minutes East to a little city named Newark.

Newark has been in the news this year because the Longaberger building is there. Y'all know what I am talking about, right? The building that looks like a basket. Yep, that one. There is also a branch of Ohio State out there. Neither of those attractions are the reason that we were there on Friday. We went for three specific things: root beer, museum, farmers market.

Root beer: Hubs is obsessed. Like, seriously obsessed with root beer. I'm not kidding. He has a Facebook page. He rates them. He DOES have more pictures of our daughter than root beer... I think. A few weeks ago he came out to Newark all by his lonesome to go to a root beer bar. A ROOT BEER BAR. He and his friend went there before a concert a couple of weeks after his first encounter and now Baby K and I have been indoctrinated. It was a pretty cool place. They have 4 sodas on tap and an absurd selection of soda from all over. It was super cozy and I can see why hubs likes this place. I didn't take pics of the inside because I was busy drinking root beer! But I did grab this pic of hubs and Baby K right outside. How about those sweet faces?!

The next stop was The Works museum. Now, I will admit, I had NO idea this museum was here. In Columbus we have COSI (Science Museum), the Ohio History Connection, Columbus Museum of Art, etc. Hubs has a thing for airplanes too (so if you are keeping a tally, hubs LOVES root beer, airplanes and books... and me) so we went to The Works to see a specific exhibit. A couple of weekends ago, he went to see a discussion about Jerrie Mock at a local library branch. For those that don't know, Jerrie Mock was the first woman to fly solo around the world AND she is from Newark. Her exhibit was very informative and I would HIGHLY recommend The Works. The admission price is reasonable and there are tons of things for the littles to do. We would have stayed longer but we had an emergency diaper situation...

It was amazing! If you are in the Central Ohio area, plea, do yourself a favor and visit this museum. For history nerds like the ones in my house, it is truly a hidden gem in our own backyard.

After the museum we headed across the street to the Farmers Market. Newark does it right! The city set aside some land, right downtown, and they built covered stalls for the vendors-- amazing! I highly recommend visiting Newark and taking in all the city has to offer. What about y'all? Is there any place in Central Ohio that you think cannot be passed up??
